Applicants must meet all of the following requirements to be considered for employment:
Legal entitlement to work in Canada (Canadian Citizenship or Landed Immigrant Status)
Certificate of Completion of NFPA 1001 Levels 1 and 2 from an approved International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or Pro Board accredited firefighter training program
High School graduation or equivalent
Transcripts demonstrating 30 post secondary credits or transcript demonstrating 1 year minimum approved apprenticeship
NFPA 1001 Levels 1 & 2 will count as 20 post secondary credits, regardless of issuing institution
Other fire related courses that earn educational credits will count towards post secondary credit requirement
2 years of accumulated work experience after the completion of high school
Valid BC Driver’s Licence, Class 3 with Air Brake endorsement
Driver’s Abstract dated no more than 30 days prior to the application closing date. Candidates must demonstrate safe and responsible driving behavior; more than six points in the last three years from the date of application is considered excessive
Candidate Physical Ability Test certificate (CPAT), current within the past 12 months from date of application
Emergency Medical Responder Licence (EMR) or higher.Licence must be kept valid throughout recruitment process. See Ministry of Health website for licencing information - Visit the Ministry of Health website for licensing information.
Standard for Competence of Responders to Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Incidents - Technical Level (NFPA 472)*
Technical High Angle Rope Rescue – Operations Level (NFPA 1006)*
Confined Space Rescue - Operations Level (NFPA 1006)*
Community Involvement/Volunteer Experience
Physically and medically fit to perform the job of a Firefighter according to the standards set out in NFPA 1582
No conviction for a criminal offence related to the job of a Firefighter
* Pro Board or IFSAC accredited certification not required; must provide documented proof that training meets or exceeds the appropriate NFPA standards.
